Political organization in istanbul
The municipality, was organized by Constantine as 14 districts to imitate the way Rome had there city laid out. Each of the districts have a mayor and a district council, whose members are elected every five years. Each district manages their own budget and are responsible for their own local tasks that include handling waste removal and issuing construction permits. The current mayor of Istanbul is Kadir Topbas.
Economy
Istanbul as been an economic pillar for the country of Turkey through three Great Empires. It was the capital city as well until 1923 when the new Republic took control. Istanbul is also responsible for about twenty-five percent of the Gross National Product of Turkey and forty percent of the state budget. About a fourth of the bank branches in Turkey are located in Istanbul as well as all the headquarters of the private banks.
Istanbul houses almost all of the insurance companies and a third of the deposits and credits used in Turkey. The city thrives as an economic center and has experienced sizable growth in the world markets. Gold also is traded freely in Istanbul. Its financial growth has been in leasing, factoring companies, and privately owned financial institutions. With the relocation of the Central Bank to Istanbul, the city is expected to get more involved with the world trade and strive to make it the head quarters for the financial centre of the world.
